Scouts Go Out!
In February, Girl Scouts can earn their Black History Month patches. We are in the unique and privileged position to live and learn in the Nation’s Capital. Scouts of all levels can join Troop 42171 for an afternoon at the Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.
No outside food is allowed in the museum. Once A Scout will have a small snack available at the conclusion of the event.
Troops must send chaperones with their Scouts, unless arrangements are made with Once A Scout. Adult-to-Youth ratios of 1:6 apply for Daisies and Brownies. A ratio of 1:10 is in place for older Scouts (under 17 years old) per NMAAHC guidelines.
Cost: Museum admission is free!
Group Entry is at 1:15pm, please be at the museum by 1pm. The group will participate in the Defending Freedom, Defining Freedom Highlights tour from 2:45-3:45pm.
Advance Registration Required.
Scouts Help Out!
A visit from the Red Cross Therapy Dogs ignited a passion for helping animals. Join the Girls Scouts of Troop 42171 in the kick-off to their spring service project. The Scouts, with the help of a parent or guardian, will serve as dog handlers during the Lucky Dog Animal Rescue adoption event (12pm-3pm), at PetSmart Potomac Yard. Scouts are responsible for introducing their furry friend to potential adoptive families, and of course showing their Lucky Dog lots of love.
Girl Scout cookies will be for sale, on site, with proceeds going towards pet supplies to donate to Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, in conjunction with a donation drive Troop 42171 will run throughout the spring months.
Reach out if you are interested in joining the team of volunteers. The Scouts are happy to coordinate efforts with other Troops.

It will be a day outside, full of activity. Green thumbs or bust!
